About Us

Sharing the Culinary Art of Entertaining

At The Kitchen Table, we want your cooking experience to be fun and worry free. We provide you with everything for THE KITCHEN: measuring cups and mixers to gourmet snacks and artisan pasta. We follow that by offering beautiful dinner and glassware, linens, and decorative pieces for your TABLE.  We put our name behind each product we carry to ensure that only the highest quality merchandise is sold in our store.

Our Story

Opening in 2003, the idea for The Kitchen Table was to blend our culinary knowledge and sales background with our sincere passion of food and entertaining. We wanted to create a specialty store that provided quality products and customer service, delivered with a personal touch.

Cuisine has taken on many new roles in the past few decades. Restaurants have come and gone, some outstanding while some one might wonder how it ever got off the ground. Busy lifestyles have taken so much out of the home kitchen but we feel it’s important to get people back into their kitchen and create a meal for the family to enjoy around The Kitchen Table.

We offer classes that appeal to the beginner cook as well as to the experienced cook. Class topics range from Stocks & Sauces to Pasta, as well as regional and ethnic themes such as Southern Cooking, French Bistro or Asian Appetizers. Watch and learn during a cooking demonstration or roll up your sleeves and participate in a hands-on clinic.

Our Team

Without a good team, the quality of customer service doesn't exist.  We have been blessed over the years to have a wonderful staff who remain dedicated to hard work while keeping it fun .. this all translates to a happier shopping experience.  So, who are we now in 2022?  We're all Mississippi born and raised, but we each bring something different to "the table."

Janet Komp joined our team in 2007, on April 1 which we continue to joke about .. a graduate of USM, Janet's years of experience in retail, starting with Kate & Carter (a beloved children's clothing store in town) and then Lynn's Hallmark before it closed it's doors in 2007 ... she is dedicated to her family, friends and her work which all serve to wonderful customer service.

Megan Legrand's move back to Hattiesburg in 2021 was a gift to us at TKT.  With a degree in marketing from LSU, She has brought our marketing and social media to a new level and we can't wait to see what the future will hold.

Kennard McKay and wife, Jennifer McKay opened The Kitchen Table in 2003.  While the culinary world was no stranger to either, the retail world was.  With the incredible good fortune to start with the vision coming to life through the logo, trademark etc. thanks to Hap Owen of Communication Arts.  And from that came the best surprise gift to a successful launch, Hap's sister Susan!  After years of working in retail and more specifically The Everyday Gourmet, she was instrumental as a consultant in the start-up and made connections to experts in the industry fluid.  Without these two, it would have been a flop we're sure!  Kennard's background in the restaurant world ended when he moved his interest to real estate sales.  Jennifer's work started as a paralegal assistant with the Butler Snow law firm but after 5 years she moved on to utilizing her love for travel as a travel agent.  Not five years after marriage, the two took a completely different turn to pursue their love for food and wine ... Culinary School!  Life's curve balls happen and they landed (back for Jennifer) in Hattiesburg and eventually opened the store with the intent to share the culinary art of entertaining.

Margaret Ann Tatum is our newest addition to the team, joining us in the spring of 2022 as a consultant.  Her many years of retail experience, including having had a small business of her own (Good Friends) in Hattiesburg, she is a perfect fit tol help us grow our Outside / Corporates Sales.
